Betty Jean Tabery Hamborg was born on February 4, 1938 to Ervin and Lindie (Orton) Kirckof in Westport, MN. Betty attended school at Villard Public School and later received her GED at Minnesota West Community College in 1983. In October of 1955, Betty was united in marriage to James Tabery in Glenwood, MN. During the early years of raising two young daughters, Betty cooked at several school districts in the Metro area. In 1972, Betty and Jim purchased and operated Tabery’s Service and Café in Olivia. Betty helped with the day to day tasks at the station and operated the small café for many years. When Betty and James divorced, she moved to Belgrade. While there, she worked as a cook at the Crow Café and as a home health aide in Glenwood. Through working at the café, she met Ronnie Hamborg; they were united in marriage in November of 2002 at the Crow River Church in Belgrade. Betty was very hard working, ending her working career at the Red Onion Drive Inn when she retired in 2013. A few years after her retirement, Betty and Ronnie moved back to Olivia to be near family. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy. During her life Betty was an active volunteer with Senior Dining while in Belgrade and was a member with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Olivia and later Belgrade. She was also an active member of the Crow River Lutheran Church when she lived in Belgrade and Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia. Betty enjoyed reading, embroidering, baking, intense card games, and watching Gunsmoke on TV. She also liked an occasional trip to the casino.

Betty is survived by her children: Deb (and Ken) Person and Patti (and Les) Hemingsen; her grandchildren: Deanna Staples, Curt Person, Ryan Fransen, Liza Luna and Jake Freiborg; her great-grandchildren: Trissa, MaKenna, Amelia, Brody, Eli, Ellanor, Manuel, and Taytum; and her brother, Roger Kirckof. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Lindie Kirckof; her brothers: Alvin and Earl Kirckof; her sister, Bernice Nelson; sisters-in-law, Clarice Kirckof, Bonnie Kirckof and Geraldine Kirckof.
