Bernice A. Augustin, age 96, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on August 18, 2020, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Private Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth, on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 9:30 am.
The clergy will be Father Mark Steffl, Fr. Sam Perez and Fr. Joe Steinbeisser
Public visitation will be on Friday, August 21, 2020 from 10:30 to 11:45 am at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth following COVID 19 regulations and social distancing guidelines.
Public graveside will be at Noon at the Japanese Martyrs Catholic Cemetery in Leavenworth all are invited up to COVID regulations or 250 people following social distancing guidelines.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Bernice was born on August 12th, 1924 in Leavenworth, MN to John and Martha (Meyer) Ludwig. She graduated from school district 32 in June of 1938 ending her education after 6th grade. She married Leo Augustin Jan. 11, 1944 at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. They resided in Hanska on a farm until they moved to the family farm south of Sleepy Eye in Feb 1955. Over the years she worked at Augustin Butcher Shop, Joe Baier Springfield Locker, Del Monte, Cook at Japanese Martyrs School, Haas Bakery and Randy’s Drug Sleepy Eye. She was a hard worker, a strong woman and was a caregiver to all. She took much pride in the farm and could be seen on her lawn mower until she moved into Countryside Assisted Living in Sleepy Eye. Later she became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center. She had fond memories of the many travels her and Leo were able to do before he passed in 1997. Bernice belonged to the Japanese Martyrs Church where she was a member of the CCW. She also belonged to the Sleepy Eye American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Sue) Augustin of Springfield, Gerald (Nancy Braun) Augustin of Sleepy Eye, Sharon (Tim Bohnen) Jones of Waseca, Wayne (Connie) Augustin of Springfield, Darla (Greg) Gilb of Lamberton, Cindy (Scott) Krueger of Sleepy Eye. 16 Grandchildren, Amy Korman, Ryan Augustin, Layne (Chipper) Augustin, Samantha Augustin, Jason Jones, Andrea Peterson, Cory Augustin, Brent Augustin, Jenny Klima, Chad Miller, Trevor Miller, Britany Bartolomaus, Cassidy Miller, Danielle Krueger, Alexa Krzmarzick, and Madison Krueger. Many great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo, brothers Gilbert and Marvin Ludewig, sisters Elvira Baier, Lucille Mathiowetz, and Doris Rosenau. Grandson Craig Augustin, and great grand twins Landon and Emma Miller.
