Barbara Johnson, age 88, of Sacred Heart, MN died on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart with Pastor Dan Bowman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Renville.

Barbara Ellen Johnson was born on September 14, 1933 to Walter and Ethel (Westerh) Summers in Canton, OH. She was baptized on October 29, 1933 at St. Peter’s Church in Canton, OH. Barbara graduated from high school in Louisville, OH in 1952. Following her graduation she enlisted in the U.S. Army, Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, as a nurse and served until 1954. Barb was united in marriage to Goodwin Johnson on March 18, 1954, while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. To this union eight children were born. They lived and farmed in rural Sacred Heart until 1969, when they moved into Sacred Heart. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart and part of the 33 Club, for those born in the year 1933. Her job at Senior Dining and being an election judge kept her busy for several years. Barb was a lifelong blood donor, collected many cook books, and liked to send numerous newspaper clippings to her family and friends of articles about their interests. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. Her welcoming and friendly nature allowed her to have a conversation with anyone. Barb will be remembered for being a wonderful, caring, and loving mother and grandmother.

Barbara is survived by her daughters and son: Wanda (and Bill) Brandt of Granite Falls, MN, Brenda (and David) Sniffen of St. Augustine, FL, Joan Harris of Las Vegas, NV, Shelly Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, James Johnson of Willmar, MN; her multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lois Hawkins of Minerva, OH and Nancy Silovich of Canton, OH. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Goodwin; daughters, Christine Mobley and Carole Hawkes; and her granddaughter, Diane Brandt.
