Arlene Magdalene Dahl

Arlene Magdalene Dahl born in rural Hendricks to Joseph V & Viola (Long) Sterzinger
February 3, 1925. Arlene was baptized, received first Communion and Confirmation at
St. Peter Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe, MN. She attended country school at District
20 Shaokatan Township in Lincoln County for a few years, then moved into Ivanhoe and
went to Ivanhoe High School graduating in 1943. After graduation she worked for the
Government in the Office of Price Administration until it closed after World War II. She
then moved to Sioux Falls, SD and worked as a secretary for Sioux Falls Gas Company.
While visiting her parents in Seaforth, MN she met Clifford Dahl. After a two-year
courtship they were married in the Catholic Church in Seaforth, MN. They had one son,
Joseph. Being in the army reserve, six weeks after marriage Clifford was called to active
duty and served his country in Korea. After his return from active duty they moved to
Marshall, MN. Where they lived on Elm Street for 66 years. They celebrated their
Golden Wedding Anniversary on September 11, 2000. For 13 years they always took a
winter break in February in Las Vegas. After 55 years of marriage, Clifford passed away
on April 8, 2005.
Arlene enjoyed family gatherings, playing cribbage and smear, listening to music, biking,
dancing, bird watching, painting, traveling and doing volunteer work. Her favorite song
was “The Last Farewell” by Roger Whitaker. Arlene was a member of the Holy
Redeemer Catholic Church and CCW for over 60 years. She was a member of the Adult
Community Center.
Arlene died on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Avera Morningside Heights in Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph V. & Viola (Long) Sterzinger; husband
Clifford A. Dahl; siblings Marcella Carl, Matilda Bonczek, Bette Koopman &; Joseph J.
Sterzinger.
She is survived by son Joseph (Alice) of Echo; granddaughters Carmen (Tim) Castagna;
Kimberly (Stuart) Geldart and Nicole (Casey) Steffensen, eight great grandchildren and
nieces and nephews.
