Arlene was born November 20, 1928, to Floyd and Rosie Simpson in Sanborn, MN. She attended a small country school up until 8th grade in Cottonwood County. Arlene was raised on a farm with her six sisters, and they shared a close bond. Arlene met Glenn Dammann in her early years and the two were engaged before Glenn left to serve in WWII. While Glenn was overseas, he mailed back white satin fabric from which she later made her wedding dress. The two were married on September 8, 1949, in Lamberton and then shared 74 wonderful years together. They moved into the house they built in Sanborn in 1949, where they lived for 67 years before they moved to Springfield.

Arlene was a homemaker, an artist, and the proud mother of Larry and Debra. Arlene had a gentle touch and a warm heart – especially for babies. She was known for always being ready with a hug and warm food for anyone who visited.

Arlene enjoyed baking (especially homemade apple pies), painting many beautiful ceramics and flowers, fruit and landscape paintings – even teaching painting classes – gardening, playing cards and scrabble. But more than anything, Arlene loved spending time with her family – including children, foster babies, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She enjoyed spending time at the lake cabin that she and Glenn built on Kandiyohi Lake. She was involved in many church activities at the United Methodist Church in Sanborn including singing in youth choir, teaching Sunday School and participating in bible study. She was also a proud citizen of Sanborn and member of the Sanborn American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn, her two children, Larry (Jan) Dammann of Rosemount and Debra Kelly of Richfield; grandchildren – Amy Dammann of Hudson, Ben (Donna) Jensen of Sartell, Tara Jensen of Minneapolis, Jason (Lisa) Dammann of Plymouth, and Lana (J.J.) Slygh of Chanhassen; and 10 great grandchildren – Trent, Alexis, Tyler, Lacey, Kinley, Nolan, Reyna, Louie, Edison, and Amel. Arlene was proceeded in death by her parents, Rosie and Floyd Simpson, and her sisters Gladys, Helen, Ethel and Ester.
