Adeline (Brouwer) Groen

Adeline (Brouwer) Groen, age 96, of Renville, MN died on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at CentraCare – Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Emden Christian Reformed Church (512 Emerson Ave. NW) in Renville, MN. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at the Emden Cemetery following the service. Memorials are preferred to Children of the Promise, Central Minnesota Christian School, and Emden Christian Reformed Church. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Renville.

Adeline Esther (Brouwer) Groen was born on May 27, 1926 on the family farm, the daughter of Nicholas and Angeline (Knoll) Brouwer. She grew up and received her education in Roseland. Adeline was baptized and confessed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at the Roseland Reformed Church. She loved to share stories of her job at Gort’s Grocery Store and also of meeting her future husband at a young people’s event at the Bunde Church. She married Bennie Groen on October 2, 1947 at the Roseland Reformed Church. Bennie and Adeline farmed northwest of Renville for 45 years prior to moving to Renville in November 1992.

Adeline was active in various Emden CRC women’s groups and loved attending women’s Bible Study. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and working on the farm. She was also a faithful volunteer with the bloodmobile giving many gallons of blood and making food for the donors and volunteers. Above all, Adeline cherished her husband, Ben and her family – including her siblings, her children and their families, and her friends. Adeline was a prayer warrior; she prayed daily for her children, grandchildren, and many others.  Her faith in her Lord and Savior was the center of her life. She had a servant’s heart and willingly gave of herself where she saw a need.

Adeline is survived by her children: Dave and Arlene (VanVeldhuizen) Groen of Willmar, Roger and Cindy (Rolffs) Groen of Prinsburg, Mary and Kevin Koppendrayer of Princeton, Carol and Carl Veurink of Milaca, Steve and Karen (VanMaanen) Groen of Edina, and Doug and Anne (Slagter) Groen of Renville; her 19 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; her sister, Serena Marcus and her brother, Mel (and Kathy) Brouwer both of Willmar. Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bennie in 2018; her brother, Harlan Brouwer; and her sister, Albertha Roelofs; and her daughter-in-law, Judy (Link) Groen.
