Mark Anthony Athmann was born June 14, 1954 at Sauk Centre, MN, to Alcuin and Edna (Huebsch) Athmann. He grew up in Bird Island and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1972. Mark then attended Hibbing Jr. College and Ridgewater College to study business. Since then Mark has worked at the family business, Athmann Inn and Island Ballroom, cooking, bartending, doing the books, or whatever was needed. He treated their hospitality business like another child and he truly had a gift for making sure everyone else was taken care of. Mark enjoyed traveling, golfing, attending Nascar races in Las Vegas, hunting at Lac Qui Parle, and watching the ships in the Duluth harbor both in person and on the computer. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered for his memorable laugh, enjoyment of spending time with his family, and being the best husband, dad and grandpa.

Mark is survived by his wife Jean of Bird Island; his three children: Brian (Kasey) Athmann of Olivia, Lisa (Cody) Schuett of Shakopee, and Kelly (Craig) Mahan of Hawley; his seven grandchildren: Anna & Ellie Athmann, Connor, Collin, and Cooper Schuett, and Lillie and Madison Mahan; his mother, Edna Athmann Rudeen of Bird Island; his siblings: Mary Jo (Brad) Schmoll of Lake Lillian, Merlin Athmann of Bird Island, and Marty (Karla) Athmann of Bird Island; and many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Alcuin “Porkie” Athmann and his infant daughter Sara.

Blessed Be His Memory
