A Winthrop teen was injured in a collision on Highway 19 in Sibley County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at about 5:36 p.m. on June 25, Hilda Ortiz Vasquez, age 33, of Osceola, Iowa, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo southbound on Highway 15. At the same time, Derek Jay Steele, age 20, of Winthrop, was driving an Oldsmobile Aurora westbound on Highway 19. The vehicles collided at the intersection of those two highways.

Vasquez and Steele were uninjured, as was Steele’s passenger Alondra Alexandra Cardenas, age 19, of Gaylord. However, an unidentified 15 year old girl in Steele’s vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was treated at the hospital in Hutchinson.

The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, as did the Winthrop Fire Department and Ambulance.
