August Lafeen

A Willmar man who admitted he wanted to commit suicide by cop was sentenced on 2 counts of terroristic threats and 2 counts of threats of violence in Kandiyohi County District Court Wednesday morning. On December 16th, 57-year-old August Lafeen threatened his probation officer at a Willmar apartment with a gun and refused to drop it when confronted by police. He was shot and wounded, and it later was discovered the gun was a fake.

In August, Lafeen pleaded guilty to 4 charges and 6 were dismissed. He was sentenced by Judge Melissa Listug Wednesday to 5 years supervised probation, and given fines and fees totaling $590, which he can work off through community service. He was given credit for the 301 days he was in the Kandiyohi County Jail since his arrest.

As part of his probation, Lafeen was given several conditions including no alcohol or non-prescription drugs and he must undergo a diagnostic assessment. If he breaks terms of probation Lafeen could be facing up to 18 months in prison.
