Willmar man arrested in drive-by shooting incident

A Willmar man, Weheliye Gaal, age 21, is in the Kandiyohi County Jail after an alleged drive-by shooting incident.

According to KWLM, at 9:49 Tuesday night Willmar police were notified about a drive-by shooting near Civic Center Drive and 23rd Street Northeast, east of the Prairie Lakes Juvenile Programs.  The caller told police he was driving in that area when a person he knew fired a handgun at him from another vehicle.
Police made contact with the alleged shooter less than an hour later and recovered a 9 millimeter handgun with the serial number removed.   Gaal is currently in the Kandiyohi County Jail pending charges of felon in possession of of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Police say last September Gaal was also charged with possession of a firearm and controlled substance crimes after a large fight at an apartment complex in southeast Willmar.
