A Willmar man was arrested after being caught throwing methamphetamine out his car window Sunday evening.

On May 5, at about 6:40 pm, a Kandiyohi County deputy sheriff was notified of a possible intoxicated driver on US Hwy 71 near 165th Avenue NE. The deputy found the vehicle at the intersection of Highways 71 and 9 and attempted to stop it for traffic violations.

The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, and continued driving eastbound on Highway 9 for about 1.25 miles at speeds less than 45 mph. The driver had been throwing items out the window while driving.

Kandiyohi County K-9 Officer Maverick later located 21 grams of methamphetamine in a nearby ditch where it had been thrown. The driver, a 35 year old male from Willmar, was taken into custody and charges are pending for fleeing in a motor vehicle, 3rd and 5th degree drug possession as well as a previously issued arrest warrant.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the MN State Patrol. This case remains under investigation.
