A Willmar man who had been charged with kidnapping after stealing a vehicle with a child inside has entered into a plea agreement.

In Kandiyohi County District Court Thursday, 25-year-old Abdikani Ibrahim entered an Alford Plea to the theft charge, and the kidnapping and driving driving after revocation charges were dismissed. Under an Alford Plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges he would likely be found guilty by a jury based on the evidence. A presentence investigation and a chemical dependency evaluation were ordered, and Ibrahim will be sentenced June 21st.

On January 31st Ibrahim stole a vehicle outside a home in the College View neighborhood in Northwest Willmar. There was a 7-year-old boy inside the vehicle, and Ibrahim let him out of the car a short distance from where he took it. The vehicle got stuck in the snow a short distance away, and Ibrahim fled on foot, and was soon arrested.
