A Walnut Grove man was sentenced in Redwood County Court for fleeing police officers after a domestic assault.

According to court documents, on Oct. 1 of last year, the Redwood County Sheriff’s office was called to a domestic assault going on in Walnut Grove. Deputies arrived at a residence to find Brian Keith James, age 54, walking through the back yard. When deputies told him to stop, James took off running southbound.

More deputies arrived on the scene and searched the neighborhood, eventually locating James on a bicycle turning eastbound onto County Road 20. He was taken into custody near the intersection of County Road 5. A preliminary blood test showed results of .163.

Back at the residence, the victim stated James was her ex-boyfriend. She described a physical assault, and deputies noted a bruise on the victim’s right cheek.

James’ criminal history showed a previous convictions for several no-contact and harassment restraining orders.

On Jan. 24, James was sentenced for felony domestic assault to the corrections facility in St. Cloud for 23 months.
