Construction on the upcoming Minnesota Veterans Home in Montevideo is about one-fifth complete, and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs says the opening is still planned for August of 2023. A groundbreaking event was held in August 2021 for the Montevideo veterans home, and construction started shortly thereafter.

The new Montevideo Veterans Home will serve 72 Residents and will be located at 2190 William Avenue at the corner of William Drive and County Road 15. In 2018, Minnesota State Legislature voted $9.4 million for the Montevideo Veterans home project.

The state will also be opening veterans homes in Bemidji and Preston in 2023.

MDVA Commissioner Larry Herke stated, “Our commitment to, and pride in, this project remains strong. Great progress is being made on construction; we are on schedule and looking forward to the summer of 2023 when we open a beautiful new Veterans Home in three communities.”

Simone Hogan, MDVA Senior Director – Veterans Healthcare, said the home will be able to accommodate residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease with a Memory Care unit. The number of rooms dedicated to Memory Care will depend on the residents who are admitted.

MDVA will begin to accept Resident admission applications in September 2022.
