Two teen boys were charged with assault after a Willmar teenager was beaten with a fake gun on Tuesday afternoon.

At 3:55 p.m. on August 8, Willmar Police were dispatched to the 800 block of 4th St SE in Willmar on the report of an assault that involved a firearm.
Officers found 16 year old male bleeding from an injury to his head. The teen had been walking down 4th St when he was approached by a group of juveniles who chased him to a yard in the 800 block of 4th St SE. The teen was thrown on the ground, kicked, and struck in the head with a handgun. The victim was transported by private vehicle to the hospital for medical attention.
Additional investigation identified two juvenile suspects. With a search warrant obtained for a residence in the 700 block of 3rd St SE, the two suspects were taken into custody, and a replica pistol was taken as evidence. The two juvenile suspects were transported to the Prairie Lakes Detention Center pending charges.
A 16 year old male suspect from St. Cloud was charged with 2nd and  3rd degree assault. A 17 year old male suspect from Willmar was charged with 5th degree assault and an outstanding 1st degree felony assault warrant.
The Willmar Police Department was assisted by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and the CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force.
