Teen pleads guilty to juvenile assault in Willmar shooting incident

A Willmar teen pleaded guilty in Kandiyohi County District Court Tuesday to assault charges for shooting at a man who discovered the teen tampering with his car. According to KWLM, 17-year-old Adrian Medina was originally charged with attempted murder, and efforts were underway to try him as an adult.
Kandiyohi County Attorney Shane Baker says in court Tuesday that Medina pled guilty to two juvenile counts of Attempted First Degree Assault. Baker says Medina will be sentenced as an adult, and faces a stayed prison sentence of 102 months when he is sentenced November 14th.
Medina was tampering with the victim’s car in southeast Willmar August 27 of last year when he was confronted by the victim. Medina shot at the victim but did not hit him, and the victim was able to identify Medina to police.
