Bail has been set at 1 million dollars for the Willmar man accused of firing several shots at a Willmar police officer Monday night. Sebastian Arevalo, age 28, is charged with one count of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, one count of 1st Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Against a Police Officer, 7 counts of 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, one count of Possessing a Firearm or Ammo with a Conviction of a Crime of Violence, and a count of Intentionally Pointing a Weapon.

His alleged accomplice, 25-year-old Christian Arevalo of Willmar, faces the same assault and attempted murder charges as Sebastian, only he is charged as being liable for the crimes of another. Christian Arevalo’s bail was set at $750,000 by Judge Jenna Fischer.

Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt says investigators believe Sebastian Arevalo shot at the police officer who was responding to a drive-by shooting on Southwest 3rd Street late Monday night.

The police officer shot back at the gunman, causing them to flee the scene. Felt says it was a miracle no one was injured. The suspects were arrested a few blocks away by Willmar Police and The SWAT team. After Thursday’s arraignment, an initial court appearance for Sebastian and Christian Arevalo was scheduled for July 20th at 3:30 p.m.
