A South Dakota couple was injured when their motorcycle swerved to avoid a deer near Montevideo on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at about 2:45 p.m. on July 12, Mark Albert Appelhof, age 62, and Audrey M. Appelhof, age 64, both of Clear Lake, South Dakota, were riding their 2007 Yamaha eastbound on Highway 212. Near Carlton Drive in Chippewa County, they took evasive action to avoid a deer on the highway, and crashed.

Both riders were taken to the Montevideo hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, and Montevideo Police Department and Ambulance assisted at the scene.
