Smoke testing of Redwood Falls sewer systems postponed to spring due to weather

At Tuesday’s Redwood Falls City Council meeting, it was announced that smoke testing of the city’s sewer system to look for leaks could continue as soon as today (Wednesday) — depending on weather. Soil that is wet with rain, or covered with snow, can prevent city staff from seeing smoke from escaping from damaged underground pipes.

On Wednesday, with Redwood Falls covered with two inches of snow, the city sent out the following announcement: “Due to the recent snowfall and the un-seasonably cold weather forecast for next week, sanitary sewer smoke testing in all areas will be postponed until spring.  Smoke testing cannot be performed when the ground is frozen or covered with snow.”
