Seven people were displaced by a fire in Morton Sunday afternoon.

At about 4:25 p.m. on Jan. 12, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a house fire on the 300 block of Walnut Drive North in Morton. Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement of a home. Inside, they discovered an active fire in the basement ceiling.

The owner of the house, who reported the fire, was able to safely escape the home along with six other residents.  The fire caused significant damage to the basement as well as the rest of the house. All seven occupants were displaced.

The Morton Fire Department and Morton MRU as well as the Franklin Fire Department and Franklin Ambulance responded to the scene. The American Red Cross assisted with the occupants of the residence.
