The Renville County Sheriff’s Office recently upgraded their CodeRED Emergency Notification System to include CodeRED Weather Warning in order to provide residents and businesses with automated severe weather alerts. The opt-in service will automatically notify enrollees of tornado, flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings just moments after an alert has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable encourages all Renville County citizens to enroll to receive free CodeRED Weather Warnings.

He stated, “The CodeRED system provides our county with numerous benefits; we use it to keep our residents informed by issuing general and emergency related messages. Now, CodeRED Weather Warning is an additional tool that we will use to help keep our citizens safe and to provide them with additional time to prepare during severe weather events.”

The system’s advanced technology is designed to quickly notify residents in the direct path of projected dangerous weather as issued by the National Weather Service.

“This is a valuable feature as those citizens who receive an alert will be able to take immediate protective actions, day or night,” Sheriff Hable said. “CodeRED Weather Warning will help keep our community informed when severe weather strikes; therefore, it’s vital that all residents enroll to receive alerts or to update their contact information to ensure it is up-to-date.  I urge you to enroll today, and please see to it that your friends, family and neighbors are enrolled, too.”

Even if Renville County residents are current CodeRED subscribers or message recipients, they must re-enroll to continue receiving warnings. The enrollment/re-enrollment process will allow you to choose which weather events you’d like to be notified about.  All residents living in Renville County are encouraged to enroll via one of the following methods:

  1. Visit www.renvillecountymn.com/sheriff and click on the “CodeRED Community Notification” tab in the lower right of the website to enroll using your home and cell phone numbers, text and email addresses.
  2. Text the word “RENVILLE” to 99411 from your smartphone.  A sign-up link will immediately be sent to you.
  3. Call the Renville County Sheriff’s Office at (320) 523-1161 and someone will assist you in getting enrolled.

No one should assume they are already included in the emergency contact database.
