A Renville County boy was pronounced dead on the scene when his ATV crashed Saturday morning.

On February 27, at about 9:35 a.m., the  Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a one-vehicle  ATV crash in the 73000 block of 510th Street, about six  miles south of Buffalo Lake. The caller reported the crash involved an ATV with male trapped underneath.

Responders discovered a one-vehicle ATV rollover  crash. The ATV had been driven by Carsten Homan, age 12, of Hector, and male juvenile passenger.  

The preliminary investigation indicates that the ATV was traveling southbound  in the road ditch of 510th Street when it struck a field approach and  overturned.  

Carsten Homan was pronounced dead at the scene. The juvenile passenger  was not injured.  

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Buffalo  Lake Ambulance Service, Buffalo Lake Fire Department, Hector Ambulance  Service, Hector Fire Department and North Memorial Air Care.  

The crash remains under investigation.
