Renville County Attorney David Torgelson has informed the County Board that he will not run for re-election.

“I have decided not to run for a seventh four-year term as Renville County Attorney in this November’s election.” stated Torgelson.  “This decision is based on two factors; that I would likely not complete another full four-year term as County Attorney before retiring, and I feel the office could benefit from new leadership and perspectives.”

Torgelson has been the Renville County Attorney since 1999.  He plans to tender his resignation as County Attorney before the election filing period and is interested in continuing his service to the citizens of Renville County as an Assistant County Attorney for a few more years before he retires.  He hopes this change will result in an assistant county attorney being able to gain experience in the top position prior to the election.

“Serving the citizens of Renville County as Renville County Attorney for the past 23 years, plus two years before that as an Assistant County Attorney, has been the honor of a lifetime.  I look forward to serving for a few more years within the office in a different role.” concluded Torgelson.

The Renville County Board of Commissioners will consider posting and recruiting for the County Attorney position at their January 25 meeting.
