A Renville man accused of starting his house on fire with his wife and five children inside has been found mentally competent to stand trial. According to KWLM, when fire crews responded to the blaze Feb. 4, Austin Telthoester, age 24, was acting erratically, said there were racoons in the walls of the house, and reportedly threatened a police officer. No one was injured in the blaze.

Renville County Judge Laurence Stratton Thursday made the competency ruling in the case Telthoester, who is charged with one count of 1st Degree Arson and five counts of child endangerment.

Telthoester is currently free on bail. A settlement conference has been slated for Aug. 8.
