The Renville City Council held a public hearing Monday on plans for a new egg farm at the site of the former Golden Oval and Rembrandt Foods operation. Forsman Farms has purchased the site and is seeking to continue and conditional use permit for its own egg laying operation. Wohlman says the city council now has 60 days to decide whether to grant the conditional use permit to Forsman.

Rembrandt Foods closed in 2019, putting 50 people out of work. Renville City Administrator Shane Wohlman says some area citizens showed up Monday and expressed concerns about flies and other nuisances associated with this type of operation. When Golden Oval operated the site clouds of flies were a persistent nuisance. Wohlman says Forsman plans to level all the buildings on the site and build a new operation from scratch.

Forsman Farms has been in business for more than 100 years. Based in Wright County, they have operations in Howard Lake, Cokato, Litchfield and Montevideo, and now want to open a new state-of-the art facility in Renville.
