A Redwood Falls woman, Alvera Lillian Sheppard, age 21, has been sentenced in Redwood County court for a felony domestic assault.

According to court documents, on Sept. 10, 2021, Redwood Falls police officers responded to a report of a domestic incident occurring in the parking lot of a Redwood Falls restaurant. Officers detained Sheppard because she appeared highly intoxicated and uncooperative.

Officers spoke with several witnesses, one of whom stated Sheppard had choked him inside his residence. Officers observed a cut on the victim’s neck, which the victim stated was from Sheppard’s fingernail. The victim stated that when he ran outside for help, Sheppard attacked him with a tree branch. The witness said she then threatened him with a brick.

In the Redwood County jail, Sheppard was allegedly uncooperative and violent, physically assaulting two police officers and attempting to punch another. A review of Sheppard’s record showed two previous convictions for domestic assault.

On Nov. 7, Alvera Lillian Shepard was sentenced to 103 days local confinement, three years supervised probation, and $585 in fines and fees.
