A Redwood Falls man was sentenced in Redwood County District Court last week for stabbing another men in the leg during a fight last summer.

According to court documents, On June 9 of last year, the Redwood Falls Police Department responded to a report of a fight involving a knife near a residence on Driftwood Drive. Officers arrived to find a limping man who appeared to have a bloody injury on his right leg. Before the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment, he stated he had been stabbed, but did not know who had stabbed him.

The officer spoke with a witness who stated he had seen the fight happen, and seen the stabbing happen. The witness did not know the name of the assailant, but immediately picked Christopher Michael Benton II, age 23, out of a photo lineup.

Benton told police he had gotten into a fight with the victim, but denied a knife was involved. He later acknowledged he had stabbed the victim.

On Feb. 18, Benton was sentenced for felony assault in the second degree to the correctional facility in St. Cloud for 32 months, stayed for five years, 60 days local confinement with credit for 10 days time served, five years supervised probation, and fines and fees of $185.
