Redwood Falls man sentenced for not registering as a predatory offender

A Redwood Falls man, Derek Lee Dahmes, age 38, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for not updating his registry as a predatory offender, a felony.

According to court documents, on March 31 of last year, a Redwood Falls Police Officer arrived at an address in town to perform a Predatory Offender Registry check on Dahmes. A woman answered the door and stated Dahmes had only stayed at her residence five times in the preceding two months, and that he had been staying at another address.

When police were able to contact Dahmes, he stated he had been living at another Redwood Falls address for the past month, then acknowledged it was closer to two months. He stated he hadn’t notified law enforcement of his change of address because it slipped his mind.

On April 4, Derek Lee Dahmes was sentenced to 12 months, one day in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for three years, 120 days local confinement with credit for four days time served, three years supervised probation, and fines and fees of $85.
