A Lucan man has been sentenced in Redwood County Court for domestic assault committed earlier this year.

According to court documents, on August 20, 2021, a Redwood County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to a residence in Lucan on a report of a domestic disturbance that had turned physical. The officer arrived about 45 minutes after midnight to find a female witness who stated she had been arguing with Stephan Kristopher Debates, age 21, who had reportedly been drinking heavily.

She told the officer that as she was trying to take the children to bed, Debates reportedly fell over and landed on their two month old child. The witness stated that when she threw Debates off the child, he took a swing at her with a closed fist, but missed. She said when she attempted to go to her car to get an object, Debates leaned against the screen door, causing her to be pinched between it and the door frame. When she pushed herself free, Debates took another swing at her, missed, and wrestled with her before they separated.

The officer interviewed Debates, who indicated he did not remember much, but that what the witness had told the officer had probably happened.

On Wed., Nov. 24, Stephan Kristopher Debates was sentenced to 13 days local confinement, with credit for 13 days time served, and one year of supervised probation.
