COVID-19 News: Redwood Falls City Council to hold special meeting Tues., May 26, to discuss Aquatic Center opening

At the most recent Redwood Falls City Council meeting,  councilors and city staff left it an open question about whether the Redwood Falls  Aquatic Center would open this summer. Governor Walz had promised he would soon give guidance on the issue, and Redwood Area Community Center staff wanted to hear the governor’s proposals before making a final recommendation.

On Thursday, May 21, Redwood Falls Park and Rec Director Ross Nachreiner sent a letter to the council, stating, “From my understanding pools are listed under Outdoor Recreation Activities and Facilities, and would be included in Phase III. Unfortunately, in the Governor’s plan there are no dates attached to his phases. With the uncertainty of an opening date attached to the phases, it makes it difficult in the planning and decision-making process.”

Nachreiner said he is still hoping the aquatic center could be opened in July. However, with all the COVID-19  uncertainties he stated staffing, scheduling, maintenance, and finances might not be realistic. Nachreiner stated he is hoping for assistance from the council in making the decision.

The Redwood Falls City Council will be having a special meeting on Tuesday, May 26 to debate the issue. Because of COVID-19 rules, the meeting will be held by telephone or other electronic means. Members of the public may monitor the meeting by telephone or other electronic means as follows:
