A section of Minnesota Highway 67 between Granite Falls and Echo will be permanently rerouted onto County Road 2 this year.

MnDOT closed a portion of Highway 67 between Granite Falls and Echo in the spring of 2019 after the road was determined to be unstable due to movement of the earth underneath.  After study, it was agreed that it was not feasible to repair in place or realign Highway 67 in this area due to the high cost ($30 million) and significant impacts to the environment, historic and cultural sites.

MnDOT has been working with Yellow Medicine County and directly impacted homeowners and landowners since the road was closed in 2019.  The Yellow Medicine County Board has agreed that MnDOT will take over County Road 2 from Highway 274 to Highway 67.

MnDOT will start the process to officially change County Road 2 to State Highway 67 in 2021.  The current detour will stay in place through the winter and will switch this spring once road restrictions are removed.
