According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at 9:20 p.m., Niya Djinn Morris, age 19, of Sioux City, Iowa, was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on Highway 15 when the vehicle swerved, lost control, and rolled in the ditch. Morris was transported to the hospital in Fairmont with non-life threatening injuries along with three children passengers.

About 50 minutes later, at 10:11 p.m., Naomi Rene Carpenter, age 20, of Inver Grove Heights, was driving a 2005 Ford Freestyle westbound on Highway 60 when the vehicle lost control and went into the median. Carpenter was declared deceased at the scene, while her passenger, infant Elijah Carpenter, was transported to the hospital in St. James with non-life threatening injuries.

The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the scene, along with the Truman Ambulance and Lewisville Fire Department.
