A reward is being offered for an arson fire in Olivia over the weekend.

The fire was reported at an unoccupied apartment building near the intersection of Highway 212 and Highway 71 at 1 p.m. Saturday. Assistant Olivia Fire Chief Kevin Morse says a passerby noticed smoke and called 911.  The fire started in a garage, and firefighters kept it from spreading to the apartment building itself. No one was hurt, and the cause of the blaze is under under investigation by Olivia Police and the Minnesota Fire Marshal’s Office.

The scene is surrounded by yellow police tape, and a sign proclaiming the fire as the result of arson is posted at the site. Any information on the fire can be phoned-in to the Minnesota Arson Hotline, 1-800-723-2020.

The Bird Island and Danube Fire Departments Assisted at the scene.
