The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has not released the name of the man who died after attacking a Willmar Police Officer with a knife Friday morning. However, family members say the shooting victim was 38-year-old Jose Lozano.

At approximately 5:40 a.m., Lozano reportedly came into his mother’s home on Mary Avenue Southeast with a knife. Police responded, and a Willmar police officer was stabbed several times.

Although the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension hasn’t confirmed any identities or details yet, witnesses claim the officer shot and killed Lozano, who may have also been tased. During the incident Lozano’s mother was also injured. Lozano’s mother was reportedly treated at Carris Hospital and released.

The police officer was taken to Carris Hospital in Willmar, and later airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital where she is in stable condition.  Lozano died at the scene.
