A Montevideo woman received life-threatening injuries when the vehicle she was riding in collided with a semi-truck in Lyon County Monday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at about 5:14 p.m. on Sept. 20, Xaiveor Mikhail West, age 21, of Granite Falls, was driving a 2015 Chrysler northbound on Highway 23. Near the intersection of Highway 91, West’s vehicle collided with a 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck traveling southbound on Highway 23.

West was taken to Avera-Marshall Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while his passenger, Jennifer Jade Labatt, age 22, of Montevideo, was transported to that hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi, Kody Dean Poeckes, age 26, of Sioux Center, Iowa, was uninjured.

Assisting at the scene were the Balaton and Russell Fire Departments and first responders, Tyler Ambulance, North Memorial Ambulance, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
