Montevideo woman dies in apartment fire Tuesday

A woman died in an apartment fire in Montevideo Tuesday morning.

On Jan. 14, at about 1:13 a.m., the Chippewa County Sheriffs Office received a 911 call reporting an apartment fire at the Lincoln Apartment complex in Montevideo, at 17th and Lincoln Ave. The Montevideo Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched.

After the fire department got the fire under control, a female victim was discovered inside the apartment. She was transported by ambulance to Chippewa County Medical where she was pronounced dead. The victim was transported by Midwest Medical Examiners office to their facility.

The fire is under investigation by the Montevideo Police and State Fire Marshall.

The apartment building is secured until further notice. The occupants of the apartment building have been displaced until further notice, due to the investigation and smoke damage.
