The Minnesota Department of Transportation, Willmar office, announced Wednesday that the detour for Highway 67 near Granite Falls has been officially moved from County Road 18 to County Road 2.

In the spring of 2019, MnDOT closed a portion of Highway 67 between Granite Falls and Echo.  The roadway is unstable due to movement of the earth underneath the roadway. After extensive study it was determined that it was not feasible to repair in place or realign Highway 67 in this area. The decision was made to reroute Highway 67 using County Road 2.

The Yellow Medicine County Board has agreed that MnDOT will take over County Road 2 from Highway 274 to Highway 67. Highway 67 from the Yellow Medicine River to County Road 2 as well as a short section of Highway 274 south of County Road 2 near Wood Lake will be turned back to Yellow Medicine County.
