Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway voted one of best in the nation for watching the fall colors change

The Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway, which runs through KLGR-land, has been voted one of the best drives in the United States for watching the autumn colors change, and the best drive in Minnesota.

Every autumn, as leaves change, many tourists like going for drives to see the leaves change color. Gunther VW Coconut Creek surveyed 3,000 people, asking them to rate their favorite routes to witness fall leaf changes. Drives in northeastern states dominated the top 10, with Seneca Trail US Route 219 in West Virginia voted the nation’s favorite.

Minnesota had three scenic drives voted among the country’s best for witnessing fall foliage this year:

Minnesota’s top pick for fall foliage drives was the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway, voted in 78th place nationally. The scenic byway runs hundreds of miles from Belle Plaine to Mankato, then northwest to the South Dakota border. Parts of it run through KLGR-area in Redwood and Renville Counties, from Montevideo and Granite Falls to the west to Morton and Fort Ridgely State Park. The Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway gives drivers a look at a variety of landscapes ranging from native-grass prairies to wooded bluffs.

The second most popular drive in the state, and 86th overall, was the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway, in the northwoods. Third place in Minnesota went to the North Shore Scenic Drive, voted 135th nationally.
