A Mankato man, Alex David Olson, age 23, was sentenced in Redwood County Court this month for multiple illegal drugs in his car, in addition to items stolen from an area hotel.

According to court documents, on May 27, 2020, the Redwood Falls Police Department received information about a burglary that had occurred in Marshall. The Marshall Police Department believed that Olson was involved with the theft of cordless hand-held power tools and a safe from a hotel. Marshall law enforcement also suspected Olson had used a dark-colored backpack, and was driving a grey 2007 Infinity G35.

Redwood Falls police officers observed that vehicle near a residence at South Washington Street. Officers noted Olson and another individual moving items — including a dark-colored backpack — from the trunk of Olson’s car to another vehicle.

The Redwood Falls police officer performed a traffic stop on Olson’s car a few moments later. Olson confirmed he had stayed in a hotel the night before. A search of the car turned up the items that had been stolen from the hotel, drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and methamphetamine.

On April 18, Alex David Olson was sentenced for felony controlled substance crime in the fifth degree to 12 months one day in the state correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for five years, 30 days local confinement with credit for 30 days time served, supervised probation for five years, and fees and fines of $335.
