A man suspected in the fatal shooting an Iowa police officer Wednesday evening was captured several hours later near Sleepy Eye on Wednesday.

According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, area law enforcement was notified that Kyle Lou Ricke, age 43, was possibly at a residence in Leavenworth Township, between Sleepy Eye and Springfield. Ricke was a suspect in the fatal shooting of Office Kevin Cram, 33, of Algona. Cram died at a local hospital following the shooting in Algona Wednesday evening.

Ricke was wanted on a harassment charge out of Palo Alto County.  Investigators say he shot Cram when the officer told him he would be arrested.

Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputies took Ricke into custody without incident with the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota State Patrol Air Unit, Sleepy Eye Police Department.

Ricke is currently in custody at the Brown County Jail and has been charged with first-degree murder in Kossuth County.
