A Litchfield man, Cody Duane Mayer, age 29, was sentenced in Redwood County Court this month for drug offenses from a Redwood Falls traffic stop.

According to court documents, on Oct. 20, 2021, a Redwood Falls police officer stopped a vehicle on Cook Street, near Redwood Valley High School. The officer had noted the vehicle had a cracked windshield within the driver’s view, and burnt out brake light.

As the officer approached the car, he noted the back seat passenger apparently making quick movements. When the officer stood next to the car to speak to the driver, he noted the passenger, Cody Duane Mayer, now appeared to be asleep. As the officer was speaking to the driver, he noted Mayer open one eye and look toward him. The officer also noted the odor of burnt marijuana.

Mayer asked if he could exit the vehicle and sit in the front passenger seat. Officers searched the vehicle, and found a grey duffel bag in the back seat where Mayer had originally been seated. A search of the bag revealed what appeared to be fentanyl pills, a clear plastic bag containing methamphetamine, and various forms of drug paraphernalia.

On June 9, Cody Duane Mayer was sentenced for possessing illegal substances and paraphernalia to 15 months in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for three years, 150 days local confinement with credit for 101 days time served, three years supervised probation, and a total of $385 in fees and fines.
