Iowa man killed in car/semi crash west of Redwood Falls Wednesday

A Spirit Lake, Iowa man, John McWhorter, 41, was killed Wednesday afternoon when a semi and a car crashed west of Redwood Falls.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, on Nov. 1, McWhorter was driving a Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on Highway 19. A Peterbilt semitruck driven by James Randall Adkins, 42, of Brush, Colorado was westbound. At about 1 p.m., the vehicles collided near the intersection with Harvest Avenue. An SUV driven Logan Jay Schreifels, 22, of Vesta, was also struck by the Cruze after the initial collision.

McWhorter was declared deceased at the scene, while Adkins and Schreifels were uninjured.

Assisting at the scene were the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Belview First Responders and Fire Department, Redwood Falls Fire Department, and CentraCare medical.
