Highway 4 in Renville County saw lots of action over the weekend, with three accidents on icy roads within hours of each other.

On Friday, Feb. 5, at about 7:04 p.m., Steven Douglas Stark, age 25, had parked his 2007 Mazda sedan beside the road near Dupont Avenue NE. A southbound 2014 Ford Escape, being driven by Robin Lynne Peterson, age 57, of Hutchinson, collided with Stark’s vehicle.

Stark was uninjured, but two passengers were taken to area hospitals. Darla Jean Stark, age 60, of Gibbon, was taken to the hospital in Olivia with believed life threatening injuries, while Douglas Albert Stark, age 59, of Gibbon, was taken to the hospital in Hutchinson with non-life threatening injures.

Peterson was also taken to the hospital in Olivia with non-life threatening injuries, while a passenger in her vehicle, Leonard George Huepenbecker, age 80, of Hutchinson, was uninjured. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Hector Fire Department and ambulance, and Buffalo Lake ambulance assisted at the scene.

The next morning, an Olivia woman was injured when her vehicle lost control on Highway 4. At about 6:17 a.m., Amy Chereen Jaenisch, age 18, of Olivia, was driving a 2017 Ford Fiesta northbound on an icy road. Near mile post 99 in Brookfield Township, Jaenisch’s vehicle lost control, struck a guardrail, and left the road. Jaenisch was transported to the hospital in Olivia with non-life threatening injureis. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

On Saturday afternoon, a Hector woman was injured when her vehicle rolled over on Highway 4 in Renville County

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at about 1:51 p.m. on Feb. 6, a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Theresa Louise Fink, age 53, of Hector, was northbound on Highway 4 near 630th Avenue. Fink’s vehicle slid off the icy road and rolled in the east ditch. She was transported to the hospital in Olivia with believed non-life threatening injuries. The Fairfax Police, Fire Department, and ambulance assisted at the scene.
