The groundbreaking for the new 72-bed veterans home in Montevideo was Monday morning.

The contractor, Knuston Construction, hopes to have footings in place in January and the building’s exterior done by May. The facility is expected be completed in May, 2023, and turned over to the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs in July of that year. The facility is being built on the east side of Montevideo, near Montevideo High School.

Ground was broken for the Preston veterans home on Monday, Aug. 9, while the Bemidji veterans home is set to have its groundbreaking this Thursday, Aug. 26.

All three homes will be designed to reflect the natural elements of their communities. Residents will also enjoy private units with private baths, small resident “households” to create a connected, community feeling, and a Town Center featuring a coffee shop/café, a theatre/meeting room, dining room, meditation room/chapel and club room.
