Five men were seriously injured early Sunday morning when a bonfire went awry near Granite Falls.

According to the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s office, on Sunday at about 2:20 a.m., a flammable liquid was poured onto a bonfire at a rural area near Granite Falls. As a result a number of people nearby received serious injuries.

One male, age 18, was airlifted from the scene, while two others, both age 20, were brought to the Granite Falls airport before being airlifted. Two other males, ages 18 and 20, were treated for injuries at the Granite Falls Hospital.

Assisting on the scene were the Wood Lake Fire Department and First Responders, Granite Falls Ambulance, North memorial Air Care, Upper Sioux Police Department, and Granite Falls Police Department.
