Firefighter were able to successfully prevent a large shed fire from spreading at a Renville County farm Friday afternoon.

On June 23, at 12:29 PM, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office heard of a structure fire on 730th Avenue, west of Renville County Road 1. The Danube and Renville Fire departments were dispatched, along with the Danube Medical Response Unit (MRU) and sheriff’s deputies.

Emergency crews located the fire at 27374 730th Avenue, about 10 miles south of Danube, and found a large shed was fully engulfed in flames. Additional fire departments were requested to help extinguish the blaze, including an aerial ladder truck.

Preliminary investigation revealed the owner of the property had started some cornstalk trash piles on fire, which spread and eventually started the shed on fire. It appeared the shed contained hay. With the shed a total loss, fire crews worked to successfully prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings on the site. No injuries were reported.

Agencies responding to the scene included the Danube Fire Department, Renville Fire Department, Redwood Falls Fire Department, Olivia Fire Department, Morton Fire Department, Danube MRU, CentraCare Ambulance-Redwood Falls, MN State Patrol and the Renville County Sheriff’s Office.
