Every year, one of the most important aspects of Farmfest is the Ag Policy forums. This year the forums will focus on the new U.S. farm bill, and its impact on farm families and rural communities.

Forums set for this year include:

“The New Farm Bill and USDA Ag Policy Issues” hosted by Robert Bonnie, USDA Undersecretary of Agriculture on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 10:30 a.m. This forum will focus on the new Farm Bill and other national policy issues and programs administered through USDA.

“U.S. Ag Export and Trade Policy”, hosted by U.S. Trade Ambassador Doug McKalip from the U.S. Trade Office is set for Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 9:30 a.m. Attendees can hear the latest information abotu current and potential U.S. trade agreements.

“Understanding Climate-Smart Practices and Policies”, Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 1:15 p.m. is an opportunity to learn about new “climate-smart” initiatives and carbon sequestration efforts.

“Ag Outlook Forum”, Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 2:45 p.m, which feature an overview of the U.S. ag economy and commodity markets, as well as an update on current crop and weather conditions.

“U.S. House Ag Committee Farm Bill Listening Session”, hosted by Congressman G.T. Thompson, Chair of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, and set for Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 9:30 – 11:45 a.m. Among the legislators who have already committed to appear are Brad Finstad, Angie Craig, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach, and Pete Stauber.

“Perspectives on Minnesota Ag and Rural Policy Issues” will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 1:15 p.m. Governor Tim Walz will deliver the opening comments for the forum at 1:10 p.m. This forum will be an opportunity to learn more about recently passed legislation and state policy issues that may affect Minnesota’s ag industry and rural communities.

“Women in Ag Forum”, Thursday, Aug. 3, at 10:45 a.m. At the conclusion of the forum, the finalists and winner of the 2023 Farmfest “Woman of the Year” will be introduced.

The “Farm Family of the Year” Recognition Program, Thursday, Aug. 3, at 1:15 p.m., honoring approximately 80 farm families from throughout Minnesota.

This year’s Farmfest forums are planned for Aug. 1 – 3 in the Wick Buildings Forum and Education Center located at the Gilfillan Estate between Redwood Falls and Morgan.
