Elk River woman uninjured in rollover Wednesday evening, but Vesta fire truck struck by semi during rescue

A woman from Elk River was uninjured after her car rolled over on icy roads in Redwood County on Wednesday evening. However, several rescuers suffered minor injuries when a Vesta fire truck was struck by a semi-truck.

According to the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, at about 6:35 p.m. on Jan 26, Matia Rose Person, age 22, was driving her 2006 Acura westbound on Highway 19. Near County Road 5, she lost control of the vehicle, and rolled the car. She did not report any injuries, but the vehicle’s loss of value was estimated at about $1,000.

According to the City of Vesta, during the rescue attempt, a semi-truck on Highway 19 ran into a city-owned fire truck. There were no major injuries, but several people with minor injuries were able to be treated on the scene. The incident is still under investigation.

Assisting on the scene were the Vesta First Reponders and Fire Department, the Milroy Fire Department, Wabasso Ambulance, and Minnesota State Patrol.
