Double murder trial underway in New Ulm

Trial is underway for a St. James man accused in the June 2018 shooting deaths of his wife and stepdaughter.

Scott Engelbrecht is facing first- and second-degree murder charges for the killings of 67-year-old Joyce Engelbrecht and 43-year-old Rachel Elaine Linder. The criminal complaint says Engelbrecht shot his wife in the head during an argument and then chased his stepdaughter and shot her several times.

His defense claims Engelbrecht saw Rachel running away, accidentally stumbled and then shot and killed her.
