Separate crashes with semi trucks leave two women dead, another injured in SW MN

Two women were killed and one injured on separate collisions with semi trucks on icy southwestern Minnesota roads over the past several days.

A woman died Monday afternoon when her vehicle collided with a semi near New Ulm just before 1:30 p.m. The Minnesota State Patrol says Naomi Sue Peterson,  45, of New Ulm, was pronounced dead at the crash scene at the intersection of Highway 14 and County Road 37.

Peterson was northbound on County Road 37 when her 2004 Pontiac Grand Am collided with a 2019 semi that was eastbound on Highway 14.  The semi was driven by 44-year-old Daniel John Brunberg of Roseville.  Brunberg wasn’t injured.

A St. Peter teen was killed in a crash with a semi north of Nicollet Monday morning. The name of the deceased 17-year-old girl has not yet been released by the state patrol. The teen was southbound on Highway 111 in Granby Township when the 2000 Buick Regal she was driving collided with a northbound Volvo semi.

The semi driver, 62-year-old John Eugene Magnan of Detroit Lakes, wasn’t injured. The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m., according to the patrol’s crash report.

On Monday afternoon, a Gaylord woman was injured in a crash with a semi in Sibley County. Rebecca Brynetta Passon was transported to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia with non-life threatening injuries after the crash, which happened at 1:19 p.m.

Passon was traveling northeast on Highway 5 near Green Isle when her Dodge Charger collided with a Freightliner tractor truck that was headed southwest on Highway 5.  The truck driver, 68-year-old Ricky Eugene Randall, of New Ulm, wasn’t injured.
